DESCRIPTION
Gaggia Besana is a new automatic coffee machine model with features that are usually seen on the high-end models of the Gaggia line. Starting from the design, Gaggia Besana has a compact and versatile design with a simple and intuitive interface. The large one-liter tank and the practical drip tray are directly accessible from the front. The coffee grounds tray has a capacity of 8 coffee grounds and can be removed from the front. The design is curved and very compact and the total dark look gives the machine an elegant and essential appearance.
Gaggia Besana Equipment
Gaggia Besana has a very intuitive interface featuring an ergonomic central knob that allows you to quickly prepare three varieties of drinks: espresso, long espresso or long coffee. The Memo function is available to customize drinks based on taste and length, which allows you to store your personalization and call it up with a simple button. The rapid heating boiler allows to reach the right temperature in less than a minute without the need for long waits during the first daily use. The indicator lights on the interface warn the user of the heating of the machine, of the active dispensing functionality, of the need to descale or fill the container of coffee beans. Gaggia Besana is equipped with an integrated coffee grinder equipped with ceramic grinders, a material that allows you to grind the beans optimally, avoiding the risk of overheating and burning of the coffee beans. The coffee grinder functionality is characterized by five different settings of the degree of grinding: from extra fine to coarser. Gaggia Besana is also equipped with the Panarello Classic function, an ergonomic steam wand that allows you to foam milk professionally, obtaining delicious milk-based drinks, including cappuccino and latte macchiato. The steam wand can also be used for the delivery of hot water for the preparation of hot drinks, tea and herbal teas.
Gaggia Besana Cleaning and maitenance
Gaggia Besana can be easily dismantled and this makes periodic maintenance and cleaning of the machine very simple. The brew group can be easily removed for weekly cleaning and rinsing. The use of a filter (Intenza + compatible) allows the machine to be preserved from substances which in the long run could adversely affect both the duration of the internal components and the taste of the drinks. Gaggia Besana is also equipped with an automatic rinsing function that starts at each ignition. The descaling function can be performed manually by the user when it is notified by the special indicator light on the machine.

I’ve been using the Besana for the last 8 months as I now work from home full time and was missing my daily cappuccino. It’s my first bean to cup Coffee maker, and as this would only be needed to make a few cups per day I wanted something easy to use and maintain that produces a high quality espresso with a decent steam wand.
In general at the price it’s at the budget end, however I haven’t been disappointed. This unit is well designed and thought out and produces a really nice crema and the steamer has sufficient pressure to produce lovely texture in the milk. Changing the grind level is very easy and normally once set to your liking your done.
All of the compartments for water and pucks are at the front and the indicator lights alert you to when you need to fill and empty these.
Cleaning is straight forward and only needed once a week when making 3-4 cups a day. The drip tray and puck compartment can go in the dishwasher and the tamper unit can be removed completely and rinsed under a hot tap and left to dry before replacing. Cleaning the Internals for the brewing are handled by the units regular cleaning cycle at startup.
My only negative is that the main control knob can be difficult to turn if your hands are a little wet, which is generally when I’m cleaning the steam wand with a wet cloth and want to push some steam through. Ideally it needs more positive grooves or a different pattern to solve this problem.
