The amazing technology behind the Rancilio Silvia V6 2020

The Rancilio Silvia has been one of the best known and the most valued domestic espresso machine for over 20 years now.

Caffè Italia have been carrying the Rancilio Miss Silvia espresso machines since 1999. Over the decades, Rancilio has made countless improvements to this iconic espresso machine improving several aspects of the unit but keeping the same amazing enjoyable experience of the first release.

We can proudly say that we’ve been part of all this history which is still here in these current times with the new Release of Rancilio Miss Silvia V6 2020. In addition, if you are looking for a compatible espresso coffee grinder for your Rancilio Silvia espresso machine, then take a look at the Rancilio Rocky Doserless or Anfim Haus, these two products are good entry level coffee grinder and a perfect matching for your Silvia V6!

We are pretty sure that you read many articles about this product and of course there are many confusions about temperature surfing and PID, our advice is to do not modify the Silvia installing an not authorized PID kit: these modification will void the warranty and they are potential harmful for you and your coffee machine. If you are looking to get a PID, we suggest you to upgrade to a Rancilio dual boiler espresso machine. Let’s go deep now analyzing the amazing technology behind the Rancilio Silvia V6 2020.

STAINLESS STEEL HEATING ELEMENT

Rancilio Silvia V6 2020

The heart of the Silvia is a high-quality press forged marine brass boiler. Besides, the small 0.35 L boiler helps keep a constant water temperature and facilitate the espresso coffee extraction. Also, the insulation wrapping helps keep the boiler temperature stable.

Due to its extraordinary thermal conductivity and thermal capacity, brass gets hot much faster and keeps heat much longer than aluminum and stainless steel. Another advantage of this boiler is the anti-corrosion resistance.

Three separate thermostats (coffee, steam, & safety).
Rather, other espresso machines just have two thermostats! However, please note the coffee thermostat is not adjustable. Thus, if you want to change the temperature of the machine, you will need to change to a higher temperature thermostat.

HEATING ELEMENT

The heating element of the Silvia is made in stainless steel which is the most common material used for the contact with food, both for its robustness and functionality, because it avoids rust formation and first scale formation those are the characteristics of hygiene required in the food industry and processing. The benefits of this metal are high effectiveness in the removal of bacteria and residues, resistance to corrosion which is the inertia of the material to react with the substances with which the same material is in contact, this prevent the exchange of elements between the material and the food substances, which remain unaltered both from the chemical that the organoleptic and toxicological points of view.

3 WAY SOLENOID VALVE

3 ways solenoid valve

The 3 ways solenoid valve of the new Rancilio Silvia V6 2020 is a Parker Coil KP07, this valve guarantee consistent flow from the boiler through the group head, make back-flushing possible, help stop brew group drips when steaming, and reduce stress on other internal components. The scope of this Parker valve is to allow water to flow between The Brew Head and the Drain Port, blocking off the Boiler outlet, allow water to flow between the Boiler to the Brew Head, closing off the Drain Port which give as result to keeps the brew head dry.

THE CONTROL UNIT AND THE VIBRATION PUMP

Rancilio Silvia v6 Control unit

The Rancilio Silvia v6 Control unit is a Gicar 9.9.37.38G01, this motherboard is the head control of all the operational functions of the Silvia and it integrates a save energy system to optimize the global power consumption of the unit.

VIBRATORY (VIBRATION) PUMP

The Rancilio Silvia has a Ulka Vibration pump – 230V 48w EP5. The principal advantage for a home machine is that the vibratory pump develops pressure quickly and is relatively compact. The principal disadvantage – significant vibration and noise. The engine of the vibratory pump is an electromagnetic coil attached to a fluid piston. The coil moves back and forth when energized with alternating current – in just the same manner as a loudspeaker coil. This drives the piston back and forth – pushing water through a one way check valve to pressurize the boiler with water.
